NEW LONDON, Conn.- Adam Tracy tallied three goals and two assists
to lead the Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team (6-1, 4-0) to
a 12-6 NESCAC victory against Connecticut College (3-5, 0-4) on
Freeman Field Saturday. Harry Ashforth, Owen Smith and Steve Thomas
scored two goals each for the 13th ranked Polar Bears, who held a
46-to-30 advantage in shots en route to their fourth consecutive
win.
Bowdoin set the tone early in this contest with three quick strikes
in the first two minutes of regulation. Tracy had a hand in each of
the three scores, assisting Ashforth on the game's first goal
58 seconds into regulation before scoring the next two off of his
own stick.
The Camels finally got on the board at the 6:44 mark. Sean Driscoll
collected a ground ball on a rebound off a shot and rifled one home
for the hosts. Less than a minute later, Hayes connected with Mark
Mangano who snuck one in from just outside the crease and the
Camels had trimmed the deficit to a single goal after one quarter
of play with a 3-2 score.
In the second quarter, the Polar Bears seized control of the game
with a 5-to-0 run over 7:57 of action, extending their advantage to
six goals with an 8-2 score. Bowdoin won 6-of-7 face-offs in the
quarter to control the time of possession. Senior specialist Ben
York played a pivotal role in the victory, winning 17-of-21
face-offs for the visitors. Ashforth capped the rally for Bowdoin
with his second goal of the day at the 7:03 mark in the half.
Bowdoin put the game away in the third quarter though, scoring
three of the first four goals in the second half to extend its lead
to 11-4. Tracy scored his third goal of the afternoon with 5:58
remaining in the quarter.
Sophomore net-minder Jake McCampbell made 12 saves in the win for
the Polar Bears. Junior Mark Moran stopped 18 shots for the Camels.
