BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin and Williams College women's ice
hockey teams skated to a 2-2 draw on Saturday in New England Small
College Athletic Conference action at Sidney J. Watson Arena.
Williams stands at 3-0-1 overall this year while the Polar Bears
move to 1-2-1.
After a scoreless first, the Ephs struck first 5:48 into the second
period on a power play goal when Kristen Tubbs set up Torrey
Taussig sitting at the far side of the post, who buried the puck
past Bowdoin's Kayla Lessard. The Polar Bears responded with
sustained pressure and eventually converted at 16:39 when Kate
Pokrass centered a pass from the corner and found Alex Fahey
streaking into the slot, deflecting the puck over the shoulder of
Williams goaltender Sara Plunkett.
Bowdoin pulled ahead off a power play goal early in the third when
Shana Natelson found Dominique Lozzi, who perfectly placed a shot
to the top left corner at 2:35. The Ephs drew even seven minutes
later when Shana Natelson blocked the initial shot from Williams'
Kate Foley at the point, but Taussig pounced on the rebound to
earning her second of the game and tie up the contest at 9:52.
Lessard came up big with two minutes left in the game when she
denied a wide open Allison Page who walked in uncontested from the
point sending the game into overtime. Bowdoin had the best chances
to convert in overtime and peppered the net in the closing seconds
before time expired.
Lessard finished with 24 saves for Bowdoin while Plunkett collected
25 saves between the pipes for the Ephs. The game featured the
return of Williams rookie head coach Marissa O'Neil (Bowdoin '05)
in her first game against her alma mater.
