Bowdoin College

One of the brightest stars during the golden age of Bowdoin ice hockey, Alan Quinlan was a scoring machine, churning out individual records and delivering championship banners to Dayton Arena.

Hailing from Arlington (Massachusetts) High School, Quinlan accumulated points at a rate not seen prior to his arrival in Brunswick. He graduated first in career goals (68) and first in career points (131) while also establishing single-season marks in 1976–1977 for goals (26) and points (57). Quinlan still holds the school record for most consecutive games with a point (30), a testament to his incomparable consistency.

But it was Bowdoin’s achievements as a team during Quinlan’s time that left an indelible mark on the annals of New England ice hockey. A crucial member of Bowdoin’s only back-to-back ECAC Championship teams, Quinlan led the 1974–1975 title team in scoring (24 goals, 44 points) and paced the 1975–1976 championship squad with 18 goals. Quinlan was named All-England and All-ECAC following his senior season in 1976–1977 and attended training camp with the Philadelphia Flyers in 1977.

Quinlan, who graduated with a degree in history, also played professionally in Belgium with the Heist op den Berg Olympia Club in 1977–1978. Alan is a resident of Brunswick and remains involved in the strong tradition of Bowdoin ice hockey by cheering on the current team in Watson Arena and attending men’s hockey reunions.
