BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin sailing team qualified for its first-ever Women's Team Race National Championship and is set to compete April 26-27 at Tulane University.
Tulane hosts the fifth all-time Women's Team Race National Championship on Lake Pontchartrain. The university played host to the 2022 Fleet Race Nationals where the Polar Bears finished 10
th overall.
Bowdoin will be sending
Lauren Russler,
Kyra Phelan, and
Rebecca Schill as skippers. Kai Olson, Mairéad Reitzel,
Maggie Tripp,
Maizie Bartlett,
Ava Tobias, and
Posie Cabaniss will crew. Both Phelan and Olson competed in Open Team Race Nationals last year.
The Polar Bears were selected by a committee that is overseen by the championship committee. The selection committee looks at teams' results from the current year's women's team race regatta results. NEISA schools were highly competitive this season and the conference championship ended with six teams tied for first with 6-3 records. The seventh place team finished 5-4.
Bowdoin qualified for its first team race national championship in 2019 and again in 2025, both were open team race events.
The championship will be a round robin of all competing teams. If time allows, smaller round robins will be completed bases on results from the first round (top 8, top 6, top 4). All scores carry over to the next round. Follow along with
live results.
