Black Bears Take Down Polar Bears In Head-to-Head Meet

ORONO, Maine – The Bowdoin men's and women's swimming and diving teams both suffered setbacks against the University of Maine – Orono.

The women fell 209-143 in head-to-head competition. The men dropped a 222-125 decision in the dual meet.

Men's Meet Highlights
  • Jack Tran had a strong meet with a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (59.78) and a top touch in the 50 fly (22.15). Gaffney McDonough added a third-place finish in the 50 fly (23.68).
  • Owen Wellers and Joram Kim finished in the top two spots in the 200 backstroke with times of 1:59.38 and 2:01.10, respectively. Weller finished as runner-up in the 100 back (54.62) and 50 back (25.68).
  • Henry Peters and Raphael Grand'Pierre sandwiched finishes in the 50 free, going 1-3 with a 21.60 and 22.02.
  • Grand'Pierre finished second in both the 100 free (48.88) and 100 fly (52.95).
  • David Xu and Joram Kim finished in the silver and bronze spots in the 400 IM (4:20.17 and 4:25.45).
  • Jaran Depew finished as runner-up in the 200 free, touching with a time of 1:48.40.
  • In the 500 free, the Polar Bears took the top two spots with Philip Bianco (4:53.16) and Colby Whitney (4:58.04).
  • Bowdoin's B relay took first in the 200 free with a time of 1:27.19.
 
Women's Meet Highlights
  • Ursula von Goeler swept the diving events with a score of 264.83 on the one-meter and 281.55 on the three-meter.
  • Lizzie Walsh and Sydney Lillis finished first and third in the 400 IM with times of 4:34.78 and 4:46.82, respectively. Walsh won the 100 breaststroke (1:07.61) and finished second in the 100 fly (58.68).
  • Lillis won the 200 fly (2:08.58) and Harper Stevens did the same in the 1000 free (10:56.71). Ava Wong was also a top finisher for the Polar Bears, finishing first in the 200 backstroke (2:12.54).
  • In freestyle, Bowdoin took second in the 50, 100, and 500. Ellie Denney went 24.63, Nina Fearon swam a 54.43, and Riley Kopp went 5:26.66
  • Adeline Wongso started the meet for Bowdoin with a second-place finish in the 50 breaststroke (31.49).

  • The women host the CBB on January 31 and the men are at Colby for the CBB on February 7.
