Women's Rugby Builds Early Lead, Holds Off Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. – The Bowdoin College women's rugby team raced to a quick start and held off a second half rally to defeat Northeastern, 27-17, on Sunday afternoon. The Polar Bears improve to 2-0 this fall with the victory.
 
Match Highlights
  • It didn't take long for the Polar Bears to get going as Janyah Bradley scored the first try of the contest in the opening minute, with a conversion from Amanda Korfin, to give Bowdoin a 7-0 lead out of the gate.
  • Bowdoin continued to roll with another try in the tenth minute, courtesy of Ginger Arnold, and carried a 12-0 edge into the break.
  • The Polar Bears dominated the opening minutes of the second half, scoring three times to built a 27-point cushion. Janiya Garrison and Jess Vanston added tries while Arnold posted another to give Bowdoin a commanding lead.
  • Northeastern used a late flurry, scoring 17 points in the final 16 minutes, but could get no closer as Bowdoin held on to win.
