Coach Pizzo's Report - October 20
The Polar Bears competed in two regattas this past weekend including the Oberg Trophy at MIT and the Open Atlantic Coast Championship at the Naval Academy. Â
At MIT, no racing took place on Saturday because of a lack on wind. On Sunday, the breeze came in at 5-10 knots out of the Southwest, allowing for five races to be completed in the three division event. The Polar Bears finished 8
th overall out of 18 teams competing.Â
Cole Amaral and
Caroline O'Hara competed in A-division,
Shea McGrath and
Maggie Tripp competed in B-division, and Mairead Ritzel and Yasi Nee competed in C division with
Owen Benison and
Charlie Conover as reserves. Â
There were a wide range of conditions at the Naval Academy with big breeze and waves on Sunday afternoon. Fourteen races were completed in the field of the top eighteen teams in the country. The Polar Bears struggled a bit in the wavy conditions but had some good races and finished 15th overall out of the 18 teams competing. Michelangel Vecchio, Izzy Tsuchitori,
Riley Donahue, and
Ryan Keenan competed in A-division with
Ethan Danielson,
Elizabeth Wire,
Kique Ruiz, and
Lucca Antonietti competing in B-division. Â
This upcoming weekend is the final weekend of the fall season with the team competing in four events including the Schell Trophy at MIT, the Urn Trophy at Harvard, the Nickerson at Tufts, and the BU Invite at BU.
