LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Emma Crum became the first skier in Bowdoin history to win an EISA race in Friday's 20k mass start skate event as the Polar Bears posted an overall fifth-place finish for the weekend at the St. Lawrence Carnival.
 
Carnival Highlights

• The carnival started with Friday's 20k mass start race that tackled the hilly course at Lake Placid. Skiers faced steep climbs and fast downhills. Crum closed the gap on Dartmouth's Ava Thurston on the third of four laps and the pair jockeyed for the position through the remainder of the race. Crum came away with position on the final downhill to earn the win by a single second.
• Jordan Grialou and Gillian Fairfax both skied to top-20 finishes as Grialou finished 13^th and Fairfax in 17^th. Mirra Payson earned 27^th overall as Keira Scott narrowly missed out on a top-30 finish.
• Adam Carlisle posted a personal best finish of 11^th in the mass start race on Friday and William Riley finished top-30.
• Crum's strong weekend of results extended to Saturday's 7.5k individual start race with an eighth-place finish. Grialou improved one spot from the day before and Fairfax added a 23^rd. Scott and Payson finished back-to-back in 30^th and 31^st.
• Riley and Carlisle finished two seconds apart to capture 22^nd and 23rd.
