MEDFORD, Mass. – The Bowdoin College outdoor track & field teams enjoyed a phenomenal Saturday at the New England Small College Athletic Conference Championship meet hosted by Tufts University.
The women's team matched their best finish in the last 26 years, placing third overall, while the men took sixth place at the championship.
Women's Meet Highlights
- Kianne Benjamin capped her final NESCAC championship meet with a flourish, winning the 400m (55.59) in school-record time and also claiming the 200m (24.16) in a wind-aided career best. She also took second place in the 100m (12.15).
- Charlotte Hodge reclaimed her NESCAC title in the pole vault, earning the second conference crown of her career with a height of 3.70m (12' 1.5").
- First-year Kennedy Kirkland continued her breakout campaign by winning the long jump at 5.77m ( 18' 11.25"), improving on her own school record. Kirkland also took sixth in the 200m (25.33) and eighth in the 100m (12.42)
- Corinne Ahern rounded out the victors for Bowdoin with a win in the javelin (40.87m, 134' 1"). Ahern was also the runner-up in the hammer throw (45.42m) and eighth in the shot put (11.21m).
- Other performances worth of All-NESCAC recognition (top-three) were Stephanie Chun (17:24.44) and Abby Mueller (17:33.06) going 2-3 in the 5000m, Ginger Arnold taking fourth in the shot put (11.82m), and Mardy Novak earning third place in the javelin (37.95m).
- Bowdoin finished with 120 points as a team, trailing only Middlebury (144) and Amherst (136).
Men's Meet Highlights
- Max Russo led the way for the Bowdoin men, taking the NESCAC Championship in 53.32 seconds to earn his first conference title.
- Kane Demers finished as runner-up in the 200m (21.38), took fourth place in the triple jump (13.81m), and seventh in the long jump (6.86m).
- Demers also anchored the 4x100 team with Ronan O'Flaherty, Dov Mcguire-Berk, and Justin Whitney who improved their own school record in the event (41.97).
- Bowdoin's top relay of the day was the 4x400 team of Jared Joyce, Ronan O'Flaherty, Adepoju Arogundade, and Russo who placed third overall (3:16.89).
- Other strong finishes included Jared Joyce in the 400m (4th, 48.68), Oliver Brandes in the 800m (4th, 1:53.54), and the 4x800 team of Brooks Peters, Lars Sorom, Aidan Singer, and Brandes, who placed fourth (7:43.53).
- Bowdoin's top field performance of the day in addition to Demers' fourth place in the triple jump came courtesy of Nick Sibiryakov, who earned fifth in the pole vault (4.55m, 14'11").
- The Polar Bears ended the day with 74 points, just edged out by Middlebury (76).
