Track & Field Teams Battle Windy Conditions, Post Impressive Finishes at Lowell

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College track & field teams battled windy conditions to earn top finishes at the UMass Lowell Invitational on Saturday, competing in events with top athletes from around the region.

Women's Meet Highlights

In a busy day, Kennedy Kirkland broke the school record in the long jump (5.64m), breaking the mark formerly held by Michelle Kaufman (set in 2013) by 7cm. Kirland also took runner-up to Kianne Benjamin the 200m (26.19).
Benjamin sprinted to a win in both the 200m (25.45) and 400m (57.43).
Lauren Traum took a runner-up finish in the 1500m (4:48.73) while the women's 4x100 relay team of Sophia Young, Rose Jenkins, Catherine Uwakwe, and Kirkland took second place in 50.63.
In the field events, Sophie Maguire took second place in the pole vault (3.15m) and Ginger Arnold recorded a second place showing in the javelin (39.74m)

Men's Meet Highlights

Max Russo earned a win in the 400 hurdles for the Polar Bear men's team, finishing in 54.83, while Addison Davis claimed the 3000 steeplechase in a time of 10:02.41.
Bowdoin's relay teams also both came away with victories as the 4x100 relay team of Ronan O'Flaherty, Dov Mcguire-Berk, Justin Whitney, and Kane Demers won in 43.68. The 4x400 team of Kane Demers, Ronan O'Flaherty, Adepoju Arogundade, and Max Russo won in 3:23.05.
Nick Sibiryakov led the way for the Polar Bears in the field events, winning the pole vault at 4.55m.
Other top showings for Bowdoin included Jared Joyce (2^nd in 200m, 22.75) and Lars Sorom (2^nd in 800m, 1:57.53).

The Polar Bears will travel to Gordon College on Saturday to compete at the Tymann Invitational in Wenham, Mass.
