NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Bowdoin is making its tenth NCAA Tournament appearance all-time and first since 2022. In their last tournament showing, Bowdoin advanced to the Elite Eight before falling to Mary Washington, 3-2. In its nine prior NCAA Tournament showings, Bowdoin owns a 6-6-5 record. The Polar Bears have reached the Sweet Sixteen on two occasions (2022, 2010). The Polar Bears have never played the three other teams in their regional, but did play in San Antonio when they reached the 2010 NCAA Division III semifinals.
HEAD COACH SCOTT WIERCINSKI
A native of Brunswick (where Bowdoin is located), Wiercinski attended Middlebury College and served as head coach at Chicago for seven seasons before returning to Maine to lead the Polar Bears in 2013. In his 11
th season at Bowdoin, Wiercinski earned his 100
th career win earlier this season, becoming the third coach in program history to reach the milestone, achieving the benchmark in the fewest seasons of any coach. He enters NCAA play with a 101-48-41 (64% win percentage) career mark at Bowdoin, and has led the program to half (five) of their NCAA Tournament appearances and two NESCAC Championships.
ALL CONFERENCE HONORS
Three members of the Bowdoin men's soccer team were recognized
in All-New England Small College Athletic Conference postseason honors announced by the league on Wednesday.
Tyler Huck (Ross, Calif.) and
Carlton Steinberg (Westborough, Mass.) have been named First Team All-NESCAC while
Felipe Rueda Duran (Beaverton, Ore.) has been named Second Team All-Conference.
ABOUT THE POLAR BEARS
Despite falling to Middlebury in the NESCAC semifinals last Saturday, Bowdoin finished the season ranked 24th in the Division III NPI rankings due to their strength of schedule index to capture an at-large bid. The NESCAC, as a conference, had eight teams selected to the tournament. Bowdoin ranked second in the conference in scoring this season (1.94 goals/game), with Huck standing third in the conference in scoring (eight goals, five assists) and fifth in game-winning goals (3). Bowdoin finished the year with a 1.18 goals against average as a team, but owned a 0.20 GAA against non-NESCAC teams this fall, allowing one goal in five games against out-of-conference opponents.
ROAD WARRIORS
Bowdoin's last home game was on Tuesday, October 22, and the Polar Bears have been on the road since, at #4 Amherst, twice at #2 Tufts and at #1 Middlebury (NPI rankings). So it seems only fitting that no team in the Division III tournament bracket will travel further for their first round match-up (approximately 2,164 miles) than Bowdoin.
