Bowdoin to Host NESCAC Cross Country Championships Saturday

BRUNSWICK, Maine - For the first time since 2012, the Bowdoin Polar Bears are hosting the NESCAC Cross Country Championships. The races are set for Saturday, November 2 at the Pickard Field Cross-Country Course on the Bowdoin campus. The women's race will begin at 11 a.m. with the men's race to follow at 12 p.m.

2023 CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP
Williams captured the 2023 NESCAC Men's and Women's Cross Country titles for the fourth straight championship. The men took home their 21st title overall with 43 points, while the women totaled 40 points for their 20th title.
 
Williams senior John Lucey crossed the finish line in a time of 24:56, 11 seconds better than the field, to win the individual NESCAC Men's Cross Country crown and lead the Ephs to a victory in the team standings. Williams had three runners finish in the top 10 and recorded 43 points to claim the NESCAC title for the fourth consecutive year and 21st time overall. Tufts junior Ivan Appleton was the runner-up with a time of 25:07 while Nikhil DeNatale of Williams placed third (25:15). Alec Gironda of Middlebury (25:24) and Will Goddard of Bowdon (25:28) rounded out the top five runners.
 
Williams senior Genna Girard posted a time of 21:04 and was 14 seconds better than the rest of the field to win the individual NESCAC Women's Cross Country title and the Ephs claimed the team title. Williams has three runners finish in the top 10 to register 40 points and win the NESCAC crown for the 20th time overall and fourth straight year. Middlebury's Audrey MacLean was the runner-up (21:18) while Williams junior Ella Ball was third (21:55). Bea Parr of Middlebury (22:08) and Abby Fernald of Conn. College (22:24) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
 
NESCAC CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
Nine NESCAC schools have won a NESCAC Men's Cross Country title since 1983 when the NESCAC began recognizing a team champion. Williams leads all schools with 21 titles and has captured four straight titles and eight of the last 10 championships. Seven NESCAC schools have won the NESCAC Women's Cross Country crown since 1983. Williams leads the pack with 20 titles and has won four consecutive titles and seven of the last eight championships.
