BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College cross country teams hosted the NESCAC Championships for the first time in 12 years on Saturday at the Pickard Field Course.
Will Goddard led the way for the Polar Bears, capturing second place individually in the men's race. Overall, the men placed sixth at the conference meet while the women took ninth place.
Men's Meet Highlights
- The Polar Bears totaled 161 points to finish behind Wesleyan (115) in sixth place, but ahead of Bates (187) and Colby (221). Williams won the championship by a single point over Amherst (76-77).
- Will Goddard was outstanding, covering the 8k course in 24:51.09, less than 11 seconds off the winning pace and earning a runner-up finish. It is the best finish by a Polar Bear runner at NESCACs since Coby Horwitz won the championship in 2012.
- Seamus McDonough was the second Polar Bear to finish, claiming 37th spot in 25:40.90, followed closely by Matthew Servin in 39th (25:42.45).
- Oliver Brandes (49th, 25:56.85) and Ashton Dunlap (50th, 25:57.11) also took top-50 finishes in the 164-competitor meet.
Women's Meet Highlights
- Williams ran away with the women's race, scoring 35 points to easily win the title. Bowdoin finished with 237 points in ninth place, trailing Bates (213), but edging out Colby (250).
- Angela Hickey was the top Bowdoin performer, placing 24th individually in a time of 21:42.70 on the 6k course.
- Lauren Traum was 53rd in a time of 22:18.85 while Cam Meyer was 60th in 22:26.42.
- Lex Davis (22:46.09) and Andrea Becker (22:47.88) rounded out the top five Polar Bears, earning 77th and 78th spot, respectively.
