LEWISTON, Maine – The Bowdoin College outdoor track and field teams both took second-place finishes at the competitive Bates Invitational last weekend. The Polar Bear women totaled 198 points to finish only behind the host Bobcats (211) while the Bowdoin men scored 188 points to finish behind Bates (217.5).
 
Women's Meet Highlights

• Kennedy Kirkland led the way for Bowdoin, winning the 400m (1:01.56) and the long jump (5.30), both in New England D-III qualifying marks.
• Kianne Benjamin won the 60m in 7.62, just shy of her own school record, and ranks second in Division III in the event this winter.
• Francine Miller placed first in the 600m (1:45.90) with Lauren Traum (1000m, 3:01.89) and Stephanie Chun (mile, 5:14.31) also recording wins for Bowdoin.  
• Ginger Arnold won the shot put (11.46m) and Rose Jenkins totaled 2,931 points – meeting the New England D-III standard – to take second in the pentathlon.  

Men's Meet Highlights

• Kane Demers was Bowdoin's multiple winner on the day, claiming the 60 hurdles in a time of 8.34 - the second-best in school history – and won the long jump with a season-best distance of 6.59m.
• Max Russo recorded the third-best time in program history in winning the 400m (49.45) while Oliver Brandes (1:22.86) won the 600m, and Brooks Peters claimed the 1000m (2:31.24).
• Ethan Estrada took first in the pole vault (3.70m) and Ian Stebbins ran away with the heptathlon with a New England D-III qualifying score of 4,407 points.
