Women's Track & Field Wins Outdoor Opener at Bates Quad Meet

LEWISTON, Maine – The Bowdoin women's track & field team began its outdoor season with multiple strong performances on a wet and cold day at the Bates Quad Meet. Despite the conditions, the Polar Bears came away with a first-place team finish in the four-team meet, totaling 76 points to edge Southern Maine (66.5), Bates (58.5) and Colby (1).
 
Meet Highlights
  • Carrying the momentum from her outstanding indoor campaign, Kianne Benjamin came away with easy wins in the 200m (24.96) and 400m (57.10) events.
  • In the distance events, Leila Trummel won the 800m (2:19.19) while Ana Gunter was the runner-up in the 10k (39:52.58)
  • Kelsey Crawford won the 3000 steeplechase in 11:58.06, taking first by over 12 seconds.  
  • In the field events, Charlotte Hodge won the pole vault at 3.55m, Jada Scotland claimed the discus with a throw of 35.09m and Emma Hargreaves took the hammer with a toss of 47.41m.

  • In a change to the announced preseason schedule, the Polar Bears will now travel to Gordon College to compete in the Jonathan Tymann Invitational next Saturday, April 8, in Wenham, Massachusetts.
