PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Despite a winless weekend at the College Squash National Championships, the Bowdoin College women's squash team finished its 2022-23 campaign with the program's highest win total since 2015-16, and matched last year's 16
th-place finish in the national rankings. The Polar Bears end their year with a record of 12-11.
Weekend Recap
- Seeded eighth in the Kurtz Cup Division, the Polar Bears lost their opening match to top-seeded Penn 9-0. Caroline Glaser played the closest match at number three, falling in a 3-1 (11-6, 9-11, 11-8, 11-2) decision.
- The Polar Bears battled well against Williams in their first consolation round match, but lost 6-3. Ursula Sze earned a 3-2 win (11-4, 2-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9), Skyler Spaulding won 3-1 (11-1, 11-6, 6-11, 11-3) and Clio Bersani claimed a 3-0 victory (15-13, 11-6, 11-4) to account for the Bowdoin points.
- Against William Smith on Sunday, Bowdoin earned four wins out of the gate to take a 4-3 lead against the Herons. Glaser won a 3-2 decision (11-7, 11-3, 10-12, 7-11, 12-10), Spaulding won 3-1 (11-7, 4-11, 11-9, 11-6) while Sophie Barber and Frances Hornbostel both claimed 3-0 shutouts to put the Polar Bears ahead.
- With two matches remaining, the Polar Bears battled well at number one and four, but lost 3-1 matches to give William Smith the win.
