SCHEDULE UPDATE
Due to the postponement of last week's Trinity game, the Polar Bears and Bantams will now conclude their seasons against each other at Whittier Field on November 18. Kickoff that day is scheduled for noon.
Â
POLAR BEAR LEADERS
Andrew Boel leads the NESCAC in completions (115), passing yards (1789), and is second in pass efficiency (147.0) and third in touchdowns (14) as we enter the homestretch of the 2023 campaign. With huge performances over the last few weeks,Â
Colton Fahey has vaulted into second place in the conference in receiving yards (615) whileÂ
Andre Eden is third in the conference in rushing yards (385).Â
Max Jacobs ranks in the top ten in the NESCAC in tackles (44) and, along withÂ
Koy Price, stand among the top-four in the league in tackles for loss. Bowdoin is third in the conference in both total offense (406.7 yards/game) and total defense (306.7 yards/game) and leads the league in average time of possession (34:24).
Cumulative stats rankings prior to postponements of three conference games last week.
Â
SCOUTING THE MAMMOTHS
Amherst ranks last in the NESCAC in scoring offense (11.1 points/game) and eighth in scoring defense (25.1 points/game) this season. Luke Harmon is seventh in the conference in tackles (7.7/game) and is tied for second in the league with three interceptions. The Mammoths are the second-least penalized team in the NESCAC. Amherst is looking to break a three-game losing streak as they have lost to Colby, Tufts and Wesleyan since their last win on October 7 over Bates, 17-7.
Â
LAST MEETING
Last year in Amherst, the Mammoths scored with 11:06 to go and
held off Bowdoin late in a 17-14 win. The victory was a measure of revenge for Amherst, who lost to the Polar Bears in
2021 at Whittier Field, 21-14.
Â
RECORD BOOK UPDATE
As the season enters its final three weeks, several Polar Bears are closing in on significant milestones.Â
Andre Eden (1,972 career rushing yards) is 28 yards away from becoming the seventh player in school history to surpass 2,000 career yards. Additionally,Â
Colton Fahey (1,826 receiving yards) is 92 yards away from becoming the school's all-time leading receiver (Pat Noone, 1,918 yards) and is 174 yards from becoming the first Polar Bear ever with 2,000 yards receiving in a career.Â
Brendan King is at 922 career receiving yards and is looking to become the 13
th player, and first tight end, to reach the 1,000-yard plateau. As a team, Bowdoin is looking to reach the four-win plateau for the first time since 2011.
Â
BOWDOIN vs. AMHERST – ALL-TIME
The two long-time rivals have met continuously since 1946 and have played in every non-war/pandemic season since 1940. Amherst owns a 79-19-2 edge all-time but the teams have split the last two meetings. The 2021 Polar Bear win was the first at Bowdoin for head coach
B.J. Hammer and the 2004 showdown - a 34-28 Amherst win - was the first overtime game in Whittier Field history.
