WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass – The Bowdoin College outdoor track & field teams came away with three New England titles in a fantastic performance at the New England Division III Championship this weekend at Williams College.
The Polar Bear women finished fifth in a 33-team field while the men placed 11 among 31 teams.
Lydia Pitts (women's triple jump),
Serena Jonas (heptathlon) and
Cheng Xing (men's long jump) were the individual champions for Bowdoin at the meet.
Meet Highlights
- Lydia Pitts dominated the field in the triple jump, clearing a distance of 12.34m to take first place. She also took fourth in the 100m hurdles (14.57).
- Serena Jonas crushed her previous personal best with a score of 4,341 in the heptathlon, using outstanding performances in the 100m hurdles, high jump, and 200m dash to propel herself to the win.
- Cheng Xing recorded a season-best distance of 7.31m in the long jump to win the event by a quarter-meter to claim the top spot on the podium.
- Other top performers for the women included Kianne Benjamin (2nd in 200m), Corinne Ahern (3rd in javelin), Leila Trummel (4th in 1500) and Charlotte Hodge (4th in pole vault). Jada Scotland was eighth in the hammer throw.
- The men were also led by top finishes from Dov McGuire-Berk (4th in decathlon), Andrew Meredith (7th in 1500m), Justin Whitney (7th in triple jump), along with Adepoju Arogundade (8th in 400m hurdles) and Jared Joyce (8th in 400m dash).
