Men's Lacrosse Rakes in All-American, All-New England Honors Following Historic Season

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team capped a sensational campaign with a pair of All-Americans and numerous Honorable Mentions in awards handed out by the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association on Thursday.

Faceoff specialist Ethan Barnard (Boxford, Mass.) was named the Co-Faceoff Player of the Year and a First Team All-American while record-breaking scorer Donal Mullane (Washington, D.C.) was named as a Second Team All-American. Will Byrne (Darien, Conn.), Zach Chandler (Salisbury, Conn.), Robert Hobbs (Wayne, Pa.) and Zack Goorno (Concord, Mass.) were all named as Honorable Mentions. The two All-Americans matches the most in a single-season in program history and the six total honors were the most-ever for the program.

Barnard becomes Bowdoin's second-ever First Team All-American, joining Connor Fitzgerald in 2006. As the Polar Bears' primary face-off man, Barnard was dominant, winning 62% of his draws, leading all conference players with 342 wins and pacing Bowdoin with 187 ground balls this spring.

Mullane, in just 16 games, shattered Bowdoin's single-season scoring record with 105 points, scoring 59 goals and 46 assists, the second-most in a single-year in program history. He broke the school's single-game scoring record (12 points vs. Conn. College, April 23) and tied the school's single-game mark of eight goals against Clark (April 20).

Byrne, the NESCAC Rookie of the Year, finished the season with 101 points, second only to Mullane in a single season in program history, and ended with 68 goals, one shy of the school record for single-season markers. Chandler was a steady presence in the midfield all season for the Polar Bears, racking up 31 goals and 21 assists while Goorno, a short stick defensive midfielder (72 ground balls) and Robert Hobbs (.531 save percentage, 287 saves, 1203:41 minutes played) anchored the Bowdoin defense this spring.

In addition to the All-American honors, Bowdoin had seven players recognized in All-Region honors announced by the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. Mullane, Barnard and Goorno were named to the First Team while Byrne, Chandler, Hobbs and AJ Bravo were Second Team selections. Bravo, a defender, started all 21 games for the Polar Bears this season, recording 38 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers.

Bowdoin finished the season with a school-record 18 wins against just three losses and reached the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time in program history.
