Men's Lacrosse Survives Home Test Against Trinity

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Chris Berry scored with 4:14 remaining in the fourth quarter to give the Bowdoin men's lacrosse team a 9-8 win over Trinity on Saturday afternoon at Whittier Field. The Polar Bears remain unbeaten at 10-0 (7-0) this year while the Bantams fall to 5-6 (1-5 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears appeared to have the game in hand early, as three Casey Ryan goals sparked a game-opening 5-1 run.
  • Jack Frischmann added a goal with on second left in the opening quarter as the Polar Bears owned a 6-2 edge heading into the second period.
  • The Trinity defense locked up Bowdoin after that however, as the Bantams held the Polar Bears to one goal over the next 32:55, including a scoreless third quarter and slowly climbed back into the game.
  • Trinity had cut the lead to 7-5 midway through the third stanza, but scored twice in the final 14 seconds to deadlock the contest heading into the fourth.
  • Bowdoin briefly regained the lead on a Cormac Walsh goal with 12:06 to go, but Bo Page answered for Trinity two minutes later.
  • After the teams traded scoreless possessions, an attempted Trinity clear was intercepted by Bowdoin as the loose ball was scooped by Chris Berry, took advantage of the broken play and deposited it into the net with 4:14 remaining.
  • Alec Delgado made two big saves on Trinity's ensuing possession and Nico Schermer caused a late turnover to secure the victory for Bowdoin.
By The Numbers
  • Bowdoin owned a 52-40 edge in shots and 14-7 advantage in faceoffs in the game, but Trinity goaltender Matt Shepard, who came into the game in the second quarter, made 14 saves and permitted just three goals over the final 45 minutes.
  • Alec Delgado was excellent in goal for Bowdoin as well, making 10 of his 15 saves in the second half to help seal the win for the Polar Bears.
  • Casey Ryan scored three goals and had an assist for Bowdoin while Troy Ulisney added two goals and an assist. Chris Berry, who was held scoreless for the first three quarters, had a hand in both Bowdoin goals in the fourth period, finishing with a goal and two assists.
  • Defensively Alex Byrne had six ground balls and a caused turnover, while Brooks Kitchel had four caused turnovers and Nico Schermer added three.
  • Alex Choi (7-9) and Cam Wietfeldt (7-12) performed well for Bowdoin in faceoffs in the victory.
