Outdoor Track & Field Teams Return to Action at Season-Opening Bates Quad Meet

LEWISTON, Maine – The Bowdoin College outdoor track & field teams enjoyed a successful start to their spring season at the Bates Quad Meet on Saturday. The Polar Bear women finished first overall while the men took second in the four-team fields.
 
Women's Meet Highlights
  • Bowdoin edged USM in the four-school field, finishing with a total of 64 points to beat the Huskies (63) by the slimmest of margins. Bates (51) and Colby (11) rounded out the competition.
  • The Polar Bears had numerous winners and New England qualifiers out of the gate, led by Kianne Benjamin's win in the 100m (12.10) and Serena Jonas' win in the 100m hurdles (15.17). In the field events, Charlotte Sweet's victory in the pole vault (3.25m) earned DIII New England qualification, as did Jenna Albanese's in the long jump (5.32m), and Corinne Ahern's victory in the javelin (35.62m)
  • Emma Hargreaves won the hammer throw (46.89m) and took second in the shot put (11.61), qualifying for DIII New England's in both, as well.
  • Other winners on the afternoon for Bowdoin included Gabby Phillips in the 200m (26.86) and Jane Hirschman in the 5000m (18:44.06).
Men's Meet Highlights
  • Bowdoin finished second in the men's meet with 59 points, trailing only Bates (98) while beating USM (27) and Colby (7).
  • The Polar Bears boasted a number of first-place showings in their opening outdoor meet of the campaign, including Jared Joyce (51.26) in the 400m, Will Goddard in the 1500m (4:09.89), and William Warlick in the 110m hurdles (15.13).
  • Bowdoin's 4x400 relay team of Jared Joyce, Ajay Olson, Max Russo and Adepoju Arogundade raced to a first place showing in a time of 3:23.07.
  • Ryan Durkin led the way for Bowdoin in the field events, winning the pole vault with a height of 4.45m.

  • The Polar Bears are back in action next Saturday in their first home outdoor track meet since April of 2019 when they host the Polar Bear Invitational at Magee-Samuelson track on April 9. Complete coverage of the meet will be available on the Northeast Sports Network.
