WATERVILLE, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's indoor track & field team posted their best finish at the New England Division III Championships since 2012, capturing fourth place at the meet held this weekend at Colby College.
Bowdoin totaled 79 points, a 27-point increase from the last championship held in 2020, edged fifth-place MIT by 4.5 points and trailed third-place Amherst by just 6.5 in the final standings. The finish was the best for the Polar Bears since placing third in the 2012 championship meet.
Meet Highlights
- Charlotte Hodge earned Bowdoin's first-place finish of the day, breaking Colby's facility record again with a height of 3.86m in the pole vault.
- Lydia Pitts was second in the 60m hurdles (8.87), second in the triple jump (11.87m) and sixth in the long jump (5.33m) to lead Bowdoin in scoring at the meet.
- Other strong individual performances on the track included Kianne Benjamin's school-record time of 7.74 in the 60m, placing third overall, Leila Trummel taking second in the mile with a big, late kick to finish in 5:05.97, and Cameron Mackenzie recording a personal best of 3:00.64 in the 1000m to take fourth.
- Cianna O'Flaherty (58.91, 6th in 400m) and Stephanie Chun (10:14.63, 8th in 3000m) also earned All-New England status
- In the field and multi events, Emma Hargreaves placed third in the Weight Throw (15.11m) and fifth in Shot Put (11.42m), while Jada Scotland placed eighth in the Shot Put with a throw of 11.30m. Serena Jonas placed third in the Pentathlon with a personal best of 3110 points.
- In the relays, 4x800m team of Cameron Mackenize, Emma Noel, Lauren Traum, and Leila Trummel placed second in 9:30.61 while the Distance Medley squad of Emma Noel, Gabby Phillips, Lauren Traum, and Claire Wyman placed seventh in 12:43.01.
