Women's Hockey Falls to Amherst On Sunday Afternoon

AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst women's ice hockey team scored three third period goals to defeat Bowdoin 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Amherst improves to 6-5-2 with a 3-3-2 mark in conference play. The Polar Bears drop to 1-12-1 (0-6-0 NESCAC).

Game Highlights

  • Izzi Stoddard gave the Polar Bears an early lead 1:40 into the game. Angelina Joyce put the puck off the back boards and found Stoddard's stick for a quick shot into an open net.
  • Miranda Bell nearly doubled the score in the final four minutes. A Bowdoin two-on-one resulted in Bell alone in the slot. The senior's wrister from point-blank was met by the glove of Caitlin Walker.
  • The Mammoths broke through 6:36 into the final frame. Anne Malloy left a pass for Katie Savage behind the net, allowing Savage a wraparound look to put away five-hole.
  • Amherst took the lead on a power play three minutes later as Jocelyn Hunyadi put a deflected puck inside the left post.
  • Hunyadi recorded an empty-netter in the final two minutes.

By the Numbers

  • Walker made 31 stops for the Mammoths.
  • Kerri St. Denis made 42 saves for the Polar Bears.
  • Amherst went 1-for-6 on the power play. Bowdoin was 0-for-5.
