BRUNSWICK, Maine – The West Chester University women's rugby team defeated Bowdoin on Saturday, 19-10, in a matchup of the nation's two oldest varsity intercollegiate programs.
The Polar Bears drop their first match of the season and fall to 2-1 this season.
Match Highlights
- Bowdoin's defense was aggressive and relentless, as the Polar Bears allowed just 12 points in 79 minutes of play despite Westchester controlling 85% of the ball possession.
- Bowdoin opened the scoring 24 minutes into the first half with possession starting at midfield. After a strong carry by co-captain Dana Peirce, the ball moved downfield through a series of offloads by both backs and forwards and ended with a try for Jackie Jaques, assisted by Satya Kent.
- The score remained 5-0 until just minutes before halftime when West Chester's outside center Autumn Czaplicki broke the line and scored in the corner.
- The Polar Bears struck first in the second half with a downfield series of plays ending with flanker Hannah Zuklie scoring a one-meter pick-and-go try to make the score 10-5.
- Bowdoin kept the lead until the 70th minute when Autumn Czaplicki took an inside angle and scored her second score of the day. The try was converted giving West Chester a 12-10 lead.
- Czaplicki scored her third try with no time remaining and the conversion was good for final score of 19 - 10.

- In a game that featured 149 tackles from Bowdoin players, outstanding individual efforts came from Liz D'Angelo and Satya Kent, who each had over 20 tackles apiece.
- The Polar Bear's B-side came away with a 17-5 win in the second match. Scoring for the Bowdoin were Sage Kashner, Jenna Clukey, and Lucy Noel with one conversion from Molly Petronzio.
