Coach Pizzo's Report - March 26
The Polar Bears competed in three team race regattas this past weekend including the BC Team Race, the BU Team Race, and the Friis Trophy hosted by Roger Williams.
Conditions were similar at all three venues this weekend with light and shifty winds on Saturday and windy and bitterly cold conditions on Sunday. At BC, the team finished with an 8-7 finishing third overall. The team had good starts but struggled a bit on the final beats to lock up race wins. Alex Vasiliou, Jake Griffin, Alden Grimes, Nora Cullen, Julia Adams, and Mike Kann competed for the Polar Bears.
At BU, the Polar Bears struggled with consistency but had a good final round robin, finishing the weekend with a record of 5-10. Louis Frumer, Isabelle Austin-Green, Rowan Byrne, Kelsey Slack, Claire Havig, and Martie Ogle competed for the Polar Bears.
The Friis Trophy featured the top teams in NEISA along with Eckerd College and Michigan. The Polar Bears had a good day on Saturday with wins against BC, Michigan, Eckerd, and BU but struggled Sunday morning in the windier conditions. The Polar Bears lost the tiebreaker against Dartmouth, and MIT to qualify for the top six. The team finished 6-6 to finish 7th overall. Competing for the Polar Bears was Harrison Hawk, Louisa Lindgren, Marie Bergsund, Emily Gonzalez, Eric Hall, Hannah Konkel, Christian Filter, Matt Safford, and Matt Kaplan.
This upcoming weekend the team will compete in the Harpswell Sound Team Race and the Marchiando Trophy at MIT.
