Coach Pizzo's Report - March 19
The Polar Bears returned from a week of training in Florida to compete in two regattas in New Englaind: The Geigor Trophy hosted by MIT and the Southern New England Team Race at Connecticut College. Conditions were brutally cold at both regattas this weekend.
At the Geigor Trophy at MIT, we were able to complete a full round robin over the two days. The Polar Bears were working on controlling pairs into the windward marks as well as starting. Bowdoin finished with a record of 4-4, finishing tied for 5th place. Matt Safford '20, Alden Grimes '21, Alex Vasiliou '18, Kevin Elk '20, Nora Cullen '18, Jake Griffin '18, Louis Frumer '18, and Julia Adams '21 competed for the Polar Bears.
Conditions were equally challenging at Connecticut College with ice building up on the boats along with frozen main sheets and jib sheets. Two round robins were completed over the weekend with the Polar Bears finishing 11-7. The Polar Bears were putting together many good plays that we worked on over spring break. Sailing for Bowdoin was Matt Kaplan '19, Louisa Lindgren '19, Christian Filter '20, Hannah Konkel '20, Harrison Hawk '18, Emily Gonzalez '20, Martie Ogle '18, and Kelsey Slack '21. This was an important event to prepare for the New England Team Race Champs that will be held at Connecticut College April 7-8.
This upcoming weekend the Polar Bears will compete at the Friis Trophy at Roger Williams, the BC Team Race, and the BU Team Race.
