Bowdoin Sailing Takes Best-Ever Finish at Sperry Nationals

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Bowdoin College sailing team took its best-ever finish at the Sperry Women's National Championship, ending in 11th place after four competitive days of racing at the San Diego Yacht Club.

The Polar Bears qualified with a strong sixth-place finish in the semifinals earlier this week and climbed from 14th place after day one of competition. Coast Guard won the event with Brown University finishing second, and Boston University finishing third. Coach Pizzo's final report is below.

Coach Pizzo's Report - May 27
The Polar Bears finished 11th out of 18 teams at the Sperry Women's National Championship moving up from 14th place after day 1.  Conditions were light and lumpy in San Diego Bay with winds ranging from 3-8 knots out of the West.  The team was able to execute better starts and had great boatspeed at times which allowed for great races and the team to improve their overall finish.

All eight Polar Bears were able to compete in the event including Erin Mullins '6, Ellis Price '18 , Olivia Diserio '16, and Mimi Paz '17 in A-division and Courtney Koos, Sydney Avitia Jacques, Louisa Lindgren, Mimi Paz, and Martie Ogle in B division.  11th place is the best ever finish at the Women's National Championship.
