Coach Pizzo's Report - April 10
This past weekend, the Polar Bears competed in two regattas including the Mystic Lake Team Race hosted by Tufts and the New England Team Race Championship hosted by the US Coast Guard Academy. Down at Tufts, the team finished with a record of 4-6, finishing 7th of 11 teams overall. Conditions were pretty light on Saturday with big breeze on Sunday. The Polar Bears improved throughout the weekend. Sailing for Bowdoin was Emily Salitan, Chester Jacobs, Louis Frumer, Mike Kann, Alex Vasiliou, Nora Cullen, Jack Fullerton, and Eve Allen.
The New England Team Race Champs hosted by Coast Guard featured many of the top teams in the country. The Polar Bears started with a tough Saturday, dropping all five races. The team improved a great deal on Sunday with wins against Roger Williams, MIT, and Dartmouth before losing to Coast Guard, BC, and Yale. The team finished 10th overall at this highly competitive event. Dartmouth, Brown, Yale, and Boston College qualified for the team race national championship in San Diego, CA in May.
This upcoming weekend the Polar Bears will compete in the Oberg Trophy at MIT, the Women's President's Trophy, and the Thompson Trophy hosted by Coast Guard.
