Coach Pizzo's Report - May 2

The Polar Bears competed in the final New England Championship of the spring season this time at the Coast Guard Alumni Bowl for the New England Dinghy Championship hosted by Dartmouth College on Lake Mascoma.  Mother nature was the dominant force of the weekend, with no racing taking place on Saturday because of a lack of wind.  Several races were started in A division but were abandoned after the start because of a lack of breeze.  Sunday brought rain and no breeze until 1 pm.  A light and spotty south easterly filled, just enough to get 4 races in each division. With so few races, the points were very tight among all of the teams.  

The Polar Bears finished 10th overall , one place out of a qualifying spot for nationals.  Jack McGuire and Mimi Paz finished 8th in A-division with Harrison Hawk and Louisa Lindgren finishing 9th in B division.  Matt Lyons, Matt Kaplan, Julia Rew, Hunter Moeller, and Jake Griffin were key reserves for the Polar Bears.  The team will continue training over the next few weeks in preparation for the Women's National Championship hosted by San Diego Yacht Club May 24-27th.
