Coach Pizzo's Report - April 25
The Polar Bears competed in two regattas this past weekend including the Boston Dinghy Challenge Cup (oldest regatta in college sailing) and the Jerry Reed Trophy for the Women's New England Championship. Down at Harvard and MIT, light and shifty winds really limited racing on the Charles River with only 9 races completed in each division at the event. The Polar Bears finished 10th of 17 teams competing at the event. Competing for the Polar Bears was Jack McGuire, Julia Rew, Matt Kaplan, Hunter Moeller, Alex Vasiliou, Jake Griffin, Harrison Hawk, Louisa Lindgren, Matt Lyons, Emily Salitan, Chester Jacobs, Isabelle Austin Green, Jack Fullerton, and Eve Allen.
The team also competed in its second New England Championship of the spring, this time at the Jerry Reed Trophy hosted by Yale. Conditions were flat and shifty on Saturday with a steady and wavy sea breeze on Sunday. The Polar Bears had a great weekend, finished 6th overall out of 16 teams and qualified for the Women's National Championship hosted by San Diego Yacht Club May 24-27. This is the best ever finish for Bowdoin at this championship. Erin Mullins, Olivia Diserio, Ellis Price, Martie Ogle, Mimi Paz, Sydney Avitia-Jacques, and Courtney Koos competed for the Polar Bears. The team is excited for this upcoming national championship.
