Women's Lacrosse Uses Late Push To Seize Big NESCAC Win Over Wesleyan

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's lacrosse team used a three-goal run in the second half and held off a late Wesleyan University rally to claim an important 11-10 win on Saturday afternoon at Ryan Field.

The Polar Bears improve to 6-7 (2-7 NESCAC) this spring while the Cardinals fall to 4-8 (1-7).

Game Highlights

  • The contest was a back-and-forth affair that saw neither team claim more than a two goal lead until Bowdoin's late run in the second half
  • Wesleyan took their largest lead of the contest in the opening period thanks to a three-goal spurt that saw Rachel Aronow score a pair of goals to give her team a 6-4 edge
  • Bowdoin answered with late goals by Emma Beecher and Megan O'Connor to deadlock the contest at six at intermission
  • In the second half, the teams traded goals until the score reached 8-8 with under 15 minutes to play
  • Lindsay Picard scored a pair of goals 25 seconds apart to give the hosts the lead for good and Beecher scored with 8:01 remaining to give the Polar Bears a 11-8 edge
  • Aronow answered with 6:54 remaining to cut the lead to 11-9, and Meredith Smith trimmed the lead to 11-10 with a goal at 1:05 for the Cardinals
  • Bowdoin's Hannah Hirschfeld won the ensuing draw control, however, and the Polar Bears were able to run out the remaining time to earn the victory

  • Bowdoin's Kayli Weiss played the first half and made eight saves for the Polar Bears before Erin Morrissey made seven saves in the second period for Bowdoin
  • Nina Labovich made 13 stops in goal for Wesleyan
  • Picard had three goals and six draw controls for Bowdoin while Emma Beecher added three goals and an assist with four draws
  • Natalie Rudin and Megan O'Connor had two goals each for the Polar Bears
  • Wesleyan was led by a five-goal effort from Rachel Aronow while Meredith Smith added four scores

  • Bowdoin will return to action next Saturday with a home contest against Wheaton at 12:00 p.m.
  • Wesleyan is off until next Saturday as well, when they will host Tufts at noon
