Box Score AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst women's ice hockey team used an overtime goal to end Bowdoin's season in a 2-1 NESCAC Quarterfinal at Orr Rink on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears end their season with an 8-14-2 record, after earning the seven seed for the NESCAC tournament. Amherst heads to the semifinals at 21-1-3, with its only loss of the season coming to Bowdoin back on January 15.
Game Highlights
- Caitlyn Ryan gave Amherst a 1-0 lead eight minutes into the opening period. Taking advantage of the Purple & White's first power play of the game, Ryan collected a pass from Alex Toupal at the blue line and sent a quick slap shot through traffic and into the netting.
- The Polar Bears threatened at the 11:01 mark, as Miranda Bell's shot found its way behind Sabrina Dobbins, only to have an Amherst defender clear the puck before it could cross the goal line.
- Bell evened the score at 1-1 with 4:17 to play in the second period. Tallying her team-leading 11th goal of the season, Bell found Bourque's rebound on the back door and sent the puck into a wide open net.
- Both Lan Crofton and Dobbins turned away breakaway opportunities in a scoreless third period, as Crofton made a right pad save on Erin Martin's shot at the 15:24 mark, before Dobbins was able to thwart Ariana Bourque with a diving save with 5:13 to play in regulation.
- Katelyn Pantera scored 2:12 into the overtime period as Kristen Molina forced a turnover and found Sara Culhane in the high slot. Culhane ripped a shot on net that Pantera deflected as the puck flew past.
