NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Bowdoin College women's squash team finished 19th in the nation last weekend in the Walker Cup Division of the College Squash Association National Tournament.
The Polar Bears, who conclude their year with a record of 12-10, won their opening round match on Friday over Wellesley, 7-2, before falling to Bates on Saturday 7-2. The Polar Bears rebounded in the 19th-place match on Sunday to edge rival Colby 5-4 to conclude the year.
Weekend Highlights
- The loss to Bates was closer than the final score indicated as the Bobcats triumphed in four of six five-game matches to earn the win
- Bowdoin's Alexa Horwitz claimed a 3-2 decision at #3 and Natalie LaPlant won 3-2 at #9 to secure points for the Polar Bears
- The Bobcats tipped the scales in their favor with 3-2 wins at positions #4, #5, #6 and #7 to defeat Bowdoin
- The Polar Bears were able to bounce back against Colby to earn their third 5-4 win over the rival Mules this season
- Bowdoin was in position to win thanks to strong wins from Torey Lee (3-1), Horwitz (3-0), Tully Ross (3-0) and Chloe Polikoff (3-0)
- As in the regular season meeting between the schools, the match came down to the #1 position where Sarah Nelson sealed it with a 3-2 (11-7, 7-11, 16-14, 7-11, 11-7) victory
