BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's squash team edged St. Lawrence, 5-4, to highlight their opening weekend of 2016 at the Lubin Center.
The 17th-ranked Polar Bears are 4-5 overall after defeating the 20th-ranked Saints (5-4) and losing to 14th-ranked Middlebury (8-1) and 12th-ranked Williams (9-0).
Weekend Highlights
- In a hard-fought battle on Friday night, the Polar Bears edged St. Lawrence thanks to wins from their top five positions
- Torey Lee (11-4, 11-7, 11-7), Tully Ross (11-2, 11-4, 11-4) and Chloe Polikoff (11-7, 11-7, 11-5) each earned sweeps at positions two, four and five
- Alexa Horwitz earned a big point for Bowdoin at number three, collecting a clutch 3-2 victory (6-11, 11-7, 11-9, 7-11, 11-8), as the match was deadlocked 4-4
- Sarah Nelson clinched it for Bowdoin with a 11-9, 11-8, 10-12, 11-5 victory at the number one spot
- Lee continued her strong weekend with a 3-2 comeback win (8-11, 11-7, 3-11, 11-8, 11-9) against Middlebury
- Nelson battled back from an 0-2 deficit against Williams before falling in an eventual 3-2 defeat (11-9, 11-8, 8-11, 4-11, 11-6)
