BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin senior pole vaulter Erin Silva closed out her collegiate career with a sixth-place finish on Thursday at the NCAA Division III Championship.
Silva cleared a height of 3.80 meters to take sixth-place and garner All-American honors for the fourth time in her decorated career. She cleared the height (12 feet, 5.5 inches) in her final attempt.
"It was a classic clutch jump by Erin," said head coach Peter Slovenski. "She had great acceleration off the ground and poise in the air. That clutch jump put her in the top six, and on the all American team for the 4th season."
Silva graduates as the school's record holder in both the indoor and outdoor pole vault with three of her four All-American honors coming at the outdoor championships (2013, '14, '15). Earlier this month she was named as the Lucy Shulman Award winner as Bowdoin's Most Outstanding Female Athlete.
Bowdoin triple jumper Katharine Krupp finished 20th in her first appearance at the Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday.
Krupp qualified with a jump of 38-1 in May when she won the New England III championship. Katie finished 20th in the NCAA championship with a jump of 36-5, missing out on qualifying for the finals.
"Katie showed a lot of fire going for it on her first jump," said Coach Peter Slovenski. "It was a close foul, but it had the kind of distance that Katie was looking for to make finals. She's a great competitor, and got a lot of valuable experience at the championship."
Krupp is a captain-elect of the women's track team for the 2015-16 season.
