WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Bowdoin pole vaulter Erin Silva captured All-American honors Friday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship.
Silva placed third in the pole vault with a height of 3.85 meters (12-7), capturing All-American recognition for the third time, but her first at indoor nationals. Silva also was named All-American at outdoor NCAA's in 2014 and 2013. The school's record holder in the event, Silva is the first Bowdoin woman to earn individual All-American honors at indoor nationals since Alison Chase (800M) in 2009 and is the highest finish by a female athlete at indoor NCAA's since Louise Duffus took second in the weight throw in 2007.
Unfortunately Bowdoin's other competitor at nationals, pentathlete Addison Carvajal, had to withdraw from the event due to injury. Carvajal was making her third appearance at nationals on the heels of a school-record in the event established earlier this season (3,501 points).
