LEWISTON, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's track and field team placed second at the Maine State Championship on Friday night at Bates.
The Polar Bears totaled 171.5 points to trail only Bates (230). Southern Maine (146), Colby (132.5), Husson (26) and St. Joseph's (15) rounded out the team scores.
Bowdoin had a pair of state champions, as Erin Silva won the pole vault (3.63 meters) and Meghan Bellerose took the 600 meter run (1:41.90). The 4x800 meter relay team of Lucy Knowlton, Alana Menendez, Alyson Fulton and Demi Feder was also victorious in a time of 10:09.19.
Other strong performances included several runner-up finishes, highlighted by Hayleigh Kein's high jump performance (1.68 meters) which tied the state meet record and the Bowdoin school record. Emily Clark was second in the 60 meter dash (8.15) while Feder was second in the 800 meters (2:23.70). In the field events, Randi London was runner-up in the weight throw (14.47 meters) and Katharine Krupp was second in the triple jump (10.78 meters).
The men's state championship meet will be held on Saturday evening at Bates.
