Women's Squash Holds Off Wesleyan On Opening Day at CSA Nationals

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Bowdoin College women's squash team survived a scare from Wesleyan to advance out of the first round of the Walker Cup Division at the College Squash Association Team National Tournament Friday.

The Polar Bears earned a 5-4 victory to defeat the Cardinals for the third time this season. Each match had gotten progressively closer, with Bowdoin earning a 8-1 win on Jan. 14 and a 7-2 win on Feb. 2.

Bowdoin, seeded 20th nationally, advances to face 17th-ranked (and top Walker Cup seed) Amherst at 9:00 a.m. Saturday in the semifinals. The Jeffs narrowly defeated the Polar Bears 5-4 just three weeks ago at the NESCAC Tournament.

On Friday, Bowdoin's Sarah Nelson (3-0) at #2, Michaela Martin (3-1) at #3, Sara Wlodarczyk (3-0) at #6 and Emily Simonton (3-1) at #8 accounted for the early points for the Polar Bears. With the match tied at 4-4, Bowdoin's Alden Drake clinched the win at #4 with a 3-1 victory.
