Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine – Rachel Kennedy scored a goal in each period of Saturday's women's hockey game against Saint Anselm as the Polar Bears extended their unbeaten streak in a 4-1 win.
The Polar Bears are off to their best start since 2002 as they improve to 4-0-2 on the season, dropping the Hawks to 6-3-1.
Kennedy opened the game with her first goal of the season 6:11 into play. Taking a pass from Jamie Ptacek in the Polar Bears' own defensive end, Kennedy carried the length of the ice into Saint Anselm's end and wristed a shot over the left shoulder of Hannah Synnott for the 1-0 lead. The Hawks answered midway through the period as Halle Kent passed up to Alison Butler from the behind the net. Butler quickly flipped a shot top shelf to even the game at one a piece.
After playing more than 11 minutes of scoreless hockey to start the second, Kennedy gave her team their second lead of the game. Playing pass with Ariana Bourque in the left corner, Kennedy closed in on the post and finally finished off the play as she slipped a shot through. Julie Dachille added to Bowdoin's lead with the team's third of the game three minutes later. Bourque cruised down the left side and dished a centering pass to Dachille who pulled left to deke her defender, dragging left again to draw Synnott, before finally shoveling it in.
Saint Anselm controlled offensive play through the majority of the final period, outshooting the Polar Bears by an 8-2 margin, but were unable to solve Lan Crofton in net. Kennedy capped her hat trick with a backhanded, bar down, shot from just outside the crease with under three minutes remaining.
Crofton finished the game with 22 saves, while Synnott stopped 20 shots for the Hawks.
The Polar Bears are back on the ice tomorrow evening with a 5:00 p.m. game against Norwich in Watson Arena. The Hawks are off until January as they open the new year with a 4:00 p.m. game at Sacred Heart on the 3rd.
