Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – Miranda Bell made her Bowdoin women's ice hockey debut by pacing the Polar Bears offense with three goals in a 6-1 victory over Colby Friday night.
The Polar Bears were playing their season opener, while the Mules fell to 0-3-0 overall.
Only 7:49 into her collegiate opener Bell netted her first of three on the evening. Bell tacked on her second, giving Bowdoin the 2-0 edge, 35 seconds into the second period and accounted for all the game's scoring during the first 40 minutes of action.
The Mules cut the lead one after Delaney Flynn scored her second of the season on a power play goal at 5:09 of the third period. The Polar Bears took any momentum away from Colby by going up 3-1 just 1:48 later when Julie Dachille, another first-year player, scored the first of her two goals at 6:57. Bowdoin sealed the victory with three goals in a span of 2:59, the first on a power play goal from Jessica Bowen at 13:07. Just 54 seconds later at, Dachille scored her second goal from Chelsea MacNeil and Marne Gallant. Bell got the hat trick at 16:06 for the Polar Bears' sixth goal on assists from Maryanne Iodice and Schuyler Nardelli.
Lan Crofton had 25 saves, including 14 stops in the third period. The Mules held a 26-25 shot advantage in the game. Colby first-year Jessica Thulin stopped 19 shots.
The two teams will meet again Saturday at 3 p.m. at Bowdoin.
