Track Opens Outdoor Season at Santa Barbara Relays in California

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- A handful of Bowdoin athletes opened the outdoor track and field season yesterday at the Easter Relays in Santa Barbara.

On the women's side, Emily Clark turned in an individual first place performance in the 400 meter hurdles (65.72). Michele Kaufman and Addison Carvajal went 2-3 in the long jump with distances of 4.96m and 4.91m respectively. Lucy Skinner secured the top slot in the 3000 meter steeplechase, completing in 12:45.83. Bowdoin's Katharine Krupp took first in the triple jump with 10.15 meters. Thrower Katherine Harmon threw the hammer for 44.85 meters and first place.

Bowdoin's men had a couple 1-2 finishes and a pair of relay victories in yesterday's opening meet. Sam Chick (56.91) and James Donnelan (61.22) took the first and second in the 400 meter hurdles. Nicholas Saba and Kevin Hoose duplicated the feat in the 3000 steeplechase with Saba clocking 9:49.77 and Hoose finishing at 9:54.20. Bowdoin's entry of Christian Sleeper, Daniel Melong, Marcus Schneider, and Will Ossoff in the 4x800 relay finished in first with a time of 8:50.86. The distance relay was equally successful with a combined time of 11:08.72, being run by Toby Zitsman, Matt Gamache, Sleeper, and Saba.

There was no team scoring in yesterday's meet.
