Men's Basketball Finishes On Top at Regis Tip-Off Tournament

WESTON, Mass. – The Bowdoin men's basketball team completed their weekend sweep with a 74-61 win over Regis in an opening weekend Tip-Off Tournament hosted by the Pride.
 
The Polar Bears (2-0) defeated the host Pride (1-1) in the first ever meeting between the two teams. Keegan Pieri and John Swords were named to the All-Tournament Team while Swords was named the Tournament MVP.
 
Keegan Pieri led the Polar Bears with a 20-point day, adding ten rebounds and a steal to his totals. John Swords supplied 18 points and three blocks, while pulling down nine rebounds in the win. Andrew Madlinger also scored double digits with a 14-point showing against the Pride. Carlos Bermudez-Glean matched Pieri with a 20-point showing for Regis.
 
A three-point shot to open the game provided Regis its only lead of the game before Bowdoin wouldgain and maintain control.  With the teams tied at six under five minutes into play, a Swords dunk spurred a 10-4 run for the Polar Bears. The Pride battled back, pulling within four at 11:25, before Bowdoin drained a pair of threes and Lucas Hausman sank two free throws to put the Polar Bears back up 26-16. The teams went on to trade baskets over the final six minutes as Matt Palecki closed out the half with a free throw to make the score 34-28.
 
The second half opened with a balanced attack from both sides, with each team posting seven points in the first three minutes. Swords supplied Bowdoin with six of its seven points over the next two minutes, interrupted by a lone free throw from Marc Osanto. Down by 16 with under ten minutes to play, the Pride began chipping away at the Polar Bears' lead. Regis narrowed the score to 61-50 at 6:37, before Bowdoin would go on a 13-5 run over the next five minutes. With only a minute remaining, Regis' Lewis Smith sank a pair of shots from the line, before three teammates would tack on an additional five points for the Pride. Regis tallied seven points in the final 1:01 of play.
 
Bowdoin converted on 46% of its shots, while Regis sank 38% of their baskets. The Polar Bears brought down 40 rebounds compared to 27 from the Pride, but had 11 turnovers resulting in 16 points for Regis.
 
The Polar Bears host St. Joseph's in their home opener on November 23 at 4:00 PM.
