HARTFORD, Conn. – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team came within a point of knocking off defending national champion Trinity in the NESCAC quarterfinals on Saturday, dropping a 64-63 decision on a last-second miss. The Polar Bears end a fantastic season with a record of 15-10 while the Bantams advance to the semifinals next week and improve to 23-2 overall.
Game Highlights
- In a game that featured five tie scores and seven lead changes, Bowdoin held a small lead throughout the opening half and carried a 30-28 edge into the break thanks to a layup by Mason Dawkins before the break.
- Trinity took the lead with a three-pointer out of the half and pushed their lead to seven points, 43-36, with 14:30 to go.
- Bowdoin answered with a 9-2 run, sparked by a three-pointer from Alex Halpern, to deadlock the score at 45 with 11:48 left.
- The teams traded buckets before a brief Trinity push gave the hosts a five-point lead, and still held a four-point lead with under a minute to go.
- With the clock running down under 30 seconds Ray Cuevas knocked down a desperation three-pointer from the wing and was fouled, cutting the Trinity lead to a single point, 64-63.
- Cuevas missed the ensuing free throw but Bowdoin got the offensive board. The Polar Bears had pair of late chances to bury the game-winner, but both shots, including a last-second tip-in attempt, missed as Trinity held on to win.

- Cuevas led Bowdoin with 17 points while Kevin Reeves added 11 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks.
- Benedek Maly pitched in eight points and six rebounds off the bench.
- Trinity shot 37% from the field while Bowdoin connected on 36%. The Polar Bears could only make 16-28 (57%) from the free throw line in the loss.
