Women's Ice Hockey Completes Weekend Sweep of Camels With Another Shutout

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Kayla Lessard posted her second shutout in as many days as the Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team completed a weekend sweep of Connecticut College, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Watson Arena.

Lessard made 23 saves as Bowdoin extended its unbeaten streak to nine games and improved to 8-1-1 (4-0-0 NESCAC). The Camels fall to4-5-1 (1-4-1 NESCAC) with the loss.

The Polar Bears got on the board with their first shot of the game, as a clear by Emily Tang came to Kayte Holtz, who skated down the left wing unabated and wristed a top-shelf shot over the right shoulder of Camel goaltender Kelsie Frolick just 3:23 into the contest.

Bowdoin carried its one-goal lead into the second period where the Camels had a great chance to equal the score when Sam Schoeneberger got behind the Polar Bear defense for a breakaway. Bowdoin's Kayla Lessard made a sliding stop, however, to preserve the one-goal lead and the Polar Bears took full advantage just moments later with the second goal of the contest.

A sustained possession in the Connecticut College defensive zone resulted in a slap shot from the point by Kenzie Novak that was redirected by Kim Tess-Wanat off the pads of Frolick. Colleen Finnerty pounced on the loose puck and tucked it inside the right post at 1:09 to give the hosts a 2-0 lead after two periods of play.

Bowdoin cashed in on a 5x3 power play early in the third period to push the lead to three goals. Chelsea MacNeil, who racked up a hat trick in Friday's win, knocked home a rebound with 15:23 remaining.

Frolick finished with 22 saves in goal for the Camels while Lessard's scoreless minute streak was extended to 130:29 for Bowdoin. Kim Tess-Wanat finished with two assists for the Polar Bears.

Bowdoin will return to the ice at St. Anselm on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Connecticut College will travel to Manhattanville for a 7:00 p.m. game on Tuesday night.
