Polar Bears Ring in New Year With Dominating Win at Codfish Bowl

BOSTON, Mass. - Kim Tess-Wanat scored three goals and had a career-high six points as the Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team opened 2012 with a resounding 7-2 win over Sacred Heart in the opening round of the Codfish Bowl hosted by UMass-Boston on Monday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (2-3-2) will face the host Beacons tomorrow in the championship tilt at 4:00 p.m.

Tess-Wanat's six points were one shy of the school record of seven set by Nan Gorton in 1993 against Williams. They are the most in a single game by a Polar Bear since Britney Carr scored six against Trinity in 2004.

Bowdoin scored the first six goals of the game-three in the first period and three in the second - as they built an insurmountable lead. Maddie Baird, Chelsea MacNeil, Kayte Holtz, and Stephanie Ludy also scored for the Polar Bears. Holtz and Kendra Sweet also had two assists each.

Tara Connolly was credited with 26 saves in the win for Bowdoin.
