BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College sailing team enjoyed a solid opening weekend of competition and nearly-perfect conditions in four regional regattas.
Highlighting the Bowdoin efforts was a second-place showing at the Penobscot Bay Open hosted by Maine Maritime. Peter Edmunds, Mae Speight, and Ben Berg won the B division by 13 points while Jeff Goodrich and Clare Henry sailed in A division. The event came down to the last race, where Salve Regina just edged out the Polar Bears.
The Polar Bears also sailed well at the Toni Deutsch '58 Trophy at MIT, where the teams sailed 26 races in each division. Bowdoin's B division team of first-year Kaylee Schwitzer and sophomore Ayaka Okawa second overall. In the highly-competitive regatta, Bowdoin finished seventh overall, beating out several nationally ranked teams including Harvard and Coast Guard.
Bowdoin also competed at the Mt. Hope Bay Invitational and Central Series this past weekend. For complete results on all weekend events, when available, visit http://scores.collegesailing.info/f11/
