Third Period Goal Pushes Amherst Over Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Geneva Lloyds scored the game winning goal in the third period goal to give the fifth-ranked Amherst College women's ice hockey team a 3-2 win over Bowdoin at Watson Arena Friday evening.  With the win, Amherst improves to 13-4-2 (11-1-1 NESCAC) while the Polar Bears drop to 11-6-2 (6-4-1 NESCAC).

Geneva Lloyd had two goals and an assist for the Jeffs while Emily Tang and Kayte Holtz scored for Bowdoin. Jill Campbell also had two assists for the Polar Bears.

Bowdoin struck first with a powerplay goal scored by Tang just 1:38 into the game.  Amherst tied the score early in the second period with a goal by Courtney Hanlon assisted by Geneva Lloyd at 1:56.  Amherst took the lead a few minutes later at the end of a long powerplay opportunity when Lloyd beat Tara Connolly with a shot over the left shoulder. But Bowdoin tied the game before intermission when Kayte Holtz slammed home a rebound goal in front of the net at 12:04.  Lloyd's game-winner came midway through the final frame when Lloyd knocked home a rebound in front of the goal on the power play.
 
Tara Connolly had a strong game between the pipes with 38 saves for the Polar Bears while Caroline Hu made 13 saves in net for the Jeffs.  The Polar Bears return to action tomorrow against against the Jeffs with a 4:00 p.m. game.
