Fourth-Ranked Plattsburgh Ices Bowdoin With Six-Goal Third Period

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The fourth-ranked Plattsburgh State University women's hockey team exploded for six goals in the third period to seal a 7-0 win at Bowdoin on Saturday at Watson Arena. The Cardinals improve to 5-0-1 this season while the Polar Bears drop their season-opener and stand at 0-1.

Plattsburgh was able to get a first-period goal from Morgan MacInnis, her first of the season, and carried a one-goal edge through the second frame as the Polar Bears killed off a pair of penalties in the second period.

The Cardinals took advantage of an early power play in the third stanza when Teal Grove's fifth goal of the season at 4:15 doubled the visitors' lead. The flood gates opened late in the period as Chelsea VanGlahn scored four times in a span of 5:50 late, sandwiched around a goal by Shannon Stewart.

VanGlahn led all scorers with four goals while Jordan Caldwell dished out three assists for Plattsburgh. Sydney Aveson (4-0-0) made 18 saves in the shutout for the Cardinals. Tara Connolly stood tall in net for Bowdoin until the late surge by the Plattsburgh, stopping 26 shots in all.

The Polar Bears will look to get into the win column next Saturday when they travel to play at Holy Cross.
