BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team scored a pair of third period goals to rally for a 3-3 draw against New England College on Wednesday evening at Sidney J. Watson Arena. The Polar Bears and Pilgrims both move to 6-3-1 on the season with the deadlock.
Kaleigh Costello scored a pair of goals with an assist for New England College, who got 40 saves from goaltender Teraysa White. Bowdoin received tallies from Kendra Sweet, Kayte Holtz and Dominique Lozzi and got 22 saves from Tara Connolly.
After a scoreless first period, a flurry of action resulted in a four-goal second frame. Sweet got Bowdoin on the board with a shot from above the right face-off circle at 4:04, only to have the Pilgrims tie it up 34 seconds later when Alyssa Hoot knocked home a rebound at 4:38. Costello then scored a pair of goals, first redirecting a slapshot at 7:23 and then poking home a loose puck in the crease at 14:48, to give the visitors a 3-1 edge entering the third period of play.
Bowdoin drew within a goal just 1:05 into the stanza when Holtz found the back of the net. After Bowdoin killed a Pilgrim power play, Lozzi evened the score when she took the puck at the blue line and lifted a backhander inside the left post with 3:44 remaining. Neither team could find the game-winner in overtime as both teams earned their first tie of the 2010-11 campaign.
The Polar Bears finished 1-6 on the power play while NEC went 1-3 on the advantage.
