Hawks Edge Polar Bears In Overtime

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Courtney Winters netted a hat trick, including the overtime game-winner, to lift the Saint Anslem women's ice hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Bowdoin on Tuesday evening. The loss drops the Polar Bears to 7-4-1 this winter while the Hawks win their sixth-straight and improve to 10-3-0.

Emily Tang began the game scoring for Bowdoin in the first period with 8:35 left on the clock. The goal was her fourth of the year, and gave Bowdoin a 1-0 lead going into the first intermission. Winters collected her first goal of the game on a power play midway through the second period, tying the game at 1-1. Later in the second period, Dominique Lozzi took the lead back for Bowdoin at 2-1, which was taken into the second intermission.

With just under 2:30 left in regulation, Rosemarie Giarrusso crossed the puck from right to left in the Saint Anselm end. The pass was snagged by Sarah Ellins, who fed the puck to Winters, who netted the game-tying goal falling down on the left side of the net. Bowdoin then picked up a penalty with just 24 seconds left in regulation, which carried over to the overtime period and led to Winters' game-winner 53 seconds into the extra session.

Tara Connolly (30:18, 20 saves, one goal against) and Sage Santangelo (30:35, 14 saves, two goals against) split time in net for the Polar Bears. Bowdoin will return to conference play this weekend when they travel to Hamilton and Connecticut College on Saturday and Sunday.
